Mercedes-Benz is the second-largest luxury brand in the US after Tesla, and Mercedes owners — especially the AMG faithful — are aggressive custom-plate hunters. The clean ones (BENZ, AMG, AMG63, GWAGON) have been gone for years.
Quick terminology note: 'custom plate', 'vanity plate', and 'personalized license plate' are interchangeable — they all describe a state-issued plate where the owner picked the alphanumeric combo. (Most state DMVs use 'Personalized Plate' as the official name; California's program is the 'Environmental License Plate'.) We pointed PlateHog's multi-state checker at every Mercedes angle — the model lines (S-Class, E-Class, C-Class, G-Class, GLE, EQS), AMG trim badges, engine codes (M177, M139, M256), Maybach references, and the unique enthusiast vocabulary that's grown up around the brand.
Some clever variants survived. Every personalized plate below has a live availability link.
How we built this list
We compiled a list of thousands of candidate plates from r/Mercedes_Benz, MBWorld, BenzWorld, and the AMG-specific subreddits and forums. The list covered every modern model line, every AMG variant, every chassis code, and every cultural reference real Mercedes owners use.
Each plate was tested via PlateHog's real-time DMV adapters across all 11 supported states on April 9, 2026. The plates featured below are still available in at least one state.
8 Mercedes Vanity Plates Still Available
Luxury Mercedes-Benz. Five characters, nine states — the most-available Mercedes plate we found. The kind of clean, classy plate that suits everything from a C300 to an S580 Maybach. Won't last.
AMG life. Seven states. The plate for the person who specifically chose the M177 hand-built V8 over a base C300, then talked about the upgrade for three years straight. Affalterbach forever.
Maybach. The Mercedes sub-brand that turns an already-extravagant S-Class into a $200K+ statement of pure ultra-luxury. Seven states. If your car has the Maybach two-tone paint and rear champagne flutes, this custom plate is the only acceptable choice.
Biturbo. The twin-turbo configuration that powers most modern AMG V8s and the AMG GT lineup. Eight states. The plate for the person who knows the difference between hot-V and cold-V turbo placement and will explain it unprompted.
Benz man. Eight states. A friendly, casual personalized plate that doesn't take itself too seriously — which, given how seriously most Mercedes owners take everything else, is refreshing. Pair it with anything from a 1990s W124 to a brand-new GLE 63.
Benzly. The adverb form. Seven states. The plate for the person who lives Benzly — drives Benzly, parks Benzly, gets coffee Benzly. There is no other way.
Daimler. The original parent company name — Mercedes-Benz was a Daimler-Benz product until 1998 and became Daimler AG until 2022. DAIMLR is the plate for the historian-class Mercedes owner who knows the difference between W201, W202, W203 and considers it relevant. Seven states.
C63. The AMG C-Class. The car that turned a midsize sedan into a 503-horsepower V8 sleeper that ate M3s for breakfast for an entire generation. Five states still have C63 — and the C63 community will fight for any of them. Move quickly.

How to check if a vanity plate is available
The fastest way to check vanity plate availability is to use a multi-state checker like PlateHog. Here's how it works:
- 1.Type your plate idea into the search box on platehog.com — 2 to 7 characters, letters and numbers only.
- 2.See live DMV results across all 11 supported states in seconds. Available plates show green; taken plates show red.
- 3.Add taken plates to your watchlist if you want PlateHog to monitor them and email you the moment they become available.
How to actually order a vanity plate
Once you've found an available plate, you order it directly through your state's DMV — PlateHog doesn't process the order itself. Most state DMVs offer online vanity plate applications. The process typically takes 2–8 weeks depending on the state and plate design you choose.

Taken — But Not Forever
These plates are claimed in every state we checked. But here's the thing — plates change hands all the time. People sell cars, move states, let registrations lapse. Any of these could open up tomorrow.

What are some good vanity plate ideas for a Mercedes-Benz?
The best Mercedes vanity plate ideas reference the model line, AMG performance trim, or the brand history. According to PlateHog's live DMV check on April 9, 2026, LUXMB, AMGLYF (AMG life), MAYBCH (Maybach), BITURB (biturbo), and BNZMAN are still available in multiple US states. Trademarked plates BENZ, MERCEDES, and AMG are gone or blocked in most states.
Can I get AMG as a vanity plate?
AMG is taken in every PlateHog-supported state and has been since the 1990s. It's also trademarked by Mercedes-AMG GmbH, which means even if a state didn't have it claimed, the trademark filter would likely block it. Workarounds: AMGLYF, AMG63, AMG65, AMG45, or AMGFAN.
Custom plate, vanity plate, personalized plate — are these different?
No — all three describe the same product. Different state DMVs use different official labels: California uses 'Environmental License Plate' (ELP); Florida, Texas, New York, and most others use 'Personalized Plate'. Mercedes owners on MBWorld and BenzWorld use 'custom' and 'vanity' interchangeably. The PlateHog checker treats every term as a synonym because the underlying DMV process is identical.
What's the difference between Mercedes-Benz and AMG?
Mercedes-Benz is the parent automaker. AMG (originally Aufrecht-Melcher-Großaspach) is the high-performance subsidiary based in Affalterbach, Germany, founded in 1967 and acquired by Daimler in 1999. AMG models (C63, E63, G63, S63, AMG GT) feature hand-built engines and significantly upgraded performance versus standard Mercedes models.
How much does a Mercedes vanity plate cost?
Vanity plate fees are charged by the state DMV, not by Mercedes. They range from $10/year in Virginia to $103 initial in California. See the full state-by-state cost table earlier on this page.
How do I check if a Mercedes vanity plate is available?
Use a multi-state vanity plate checker like PlateHog. Type your plate idea and PlateHog will run it against all 11 supported state DMVs in real time, showing live availability for each.
What is BITURB on a license plate?
BITURB is short for biturbo — a twin-turbocharged engine configuration. Most modern Mercedes-AMG V8s (M177, M178, M157) use biturbo arrangements where the two turbochargers sit inside the V of the engine (a 'hot-V' design). BITURB is a popular AMG-themed vanity plate among V8 owners.
