We fed every Porsche model name, engine code, and community slang term into our AI plate finder and checked them against 10+ state DMVs in real time. Most are gone. But these survived.

Quick terminology note: “custom license plate”, “vanity plate”, and “personalized license plate” are interchangeable terms for the same thing — a state-issued plate where the owner picked the alphanumeric combination. State DMVs use different official labels (most call them “Personalized Plates”; California uses “Environmental License Plate”), and Porsche owners on Rennlist and 6speedonline use all three terms interchangeably. PlateHog matches whichever phrasing you searched.

You already know the pain. You think of the perfect plate while detailing your car on a Saturday morning. You pull up your state's DMV site. The page takes 45 seconds to load. You navigate through six menus. You type GT3RS. Taken. FLAT6. Taken. PORSCHE. Blocked. You close the tab and go back to applying ceramic coating.

We built PlateHog to skip all of that. One search, 10+ states, real DMV data, instant results. To prove it works, we threw hundreds of custom Porsche-themed plates at it. Here are the personalized vanity plates that actually came back available.

Missing a letter on purpose. Every single Porsche owner has tried PORSCHE on their state's DMV site and gotten the rejection screen in under a second. Most states also block it as a trademark. PRSCHE sidesteps both problems — anyone behind you in traffic will read it instantly, and the DMV's filter won't flag it. Four states still have it. That window is closing fast.

Hans Mezger designed the flat-six that powered the 911 GT1, the Carrera GT, and every 996/997 Turbo and GT3. The Mezger engine is the one with the beefed-up intermediate shaft — the reason Turbo and GT3 owners sleep soundly while base 996 owners check their oil for glitter every morning. If you're driving a Mezger car without this plate, you're leaving money on the table. Three states. Go.

AIRKL
CA — California

Aircooled. The single word that turns a $45K driver-quality 911 into a $250K garage queen. AIRKL is sitting right there in the California DMV, unclaimed, waiting for someone with a 993, 964, or air-cooled Speedster to come to their senses. California has more aircooled Porsches per capita than anywhere else on Earth. The fact that nobody has grabbed this yet is genuinely baffling. Don't think about it. Just go.

WEST VIRGINIA
911
WV — West Virginia

Three characters. The most iconic sports car nameplate ever made. We checked every state we support — 911 is taken everywhere except West Virginia. If you've got a 911 registered in WV or you're willing to make it happen, this is the kind of custom plate that makes people pull out their phones at gas stations. Short plates are the hardest to get and the first to disappear. This one is living on borrowed time.

Porsche Doppelkupplung — the dual-clutch gearbox that shifts faster than your nervous system can process and still manages to make manual purists write angry forum posts in 2026. Three letters, clean, and the kind of personalized plate only other Porsche people will decode. That's the whole point. Available in Maine, which also happens to be one of the best driving states on the east coast. Acadia National Park with a PDK plate on a 911? Come on.

OHIO
CAYMAN
OH — Ohio

The mid-engine Porsche that Stuttgart doesn't want you to realize is the better driver's car. They keep sandbagging it with less power than the 911 for a reason — if they gave it 500 hp, nobody would buy the flagship. The Cayman's balance is supernatural, and every owner has fielded "why didn't you just get a 911?" enough times to deserve a plate that ends the conversation. Ohio only.

WEST VIRGINIA

WV — West Virginia

Current-gen chassis code. Whether you picked up a 992 GT3, GT3 RS, Sport Classic, or a base Carrera that you're definitely going to track (sure you are), this plate tells the world which generation you're repping. The 992 is controversial in some circles — the purists say it's too digital, too refined, too far from the original ethos. They're wrong. West Virginia has this one, and only West Virginia.

What we checked

This wasn't a casual browse. We built a list of every Porsche model name (Carrera, Targa, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, Taycan, 918), every chassis code (964, 993, 996, 997, 991, 992), every engine reference (Mezger, flat-six, aircooled, watercooled), transmission codes (PDK, G50), tuner names (RUF, Singer, RWB, Gemballa), and every enthusiast abbreviation we could think of. Then we ran every combination through 10+ state DMVs using PlateHog's AI-powered search.

The Porsche community is thorough. Most of the obvious stuff was claimed years ago. The plates above are the ones that slipped through — creative abbreviations, engine codes, and deep-cut references that only real enthusiasts will recognize. That's what makes them worth having.

Taken — But Not Forever

These plates are claimed in every state we checked. But here's the thing — plates change hands all the time. People sell cars, move states, let registrations lapse. That GT3RS plate you want? It could open up tomorrow.
