Corvette owners are the original American sports car enthusiasts, and the C8 mid-engine revolution brought a whole new wave of younger drivers into the cult. Both groups love personalized plates — which means the obvious ones (VETTE, STINGRAY, ZR1) have been claimed for decades.
Custom license plates, vanity plates, and personalized license plates all describe the same thing — a state-issued plate where the owner picked the alphanumeric combo. Different DMVs prefer different terms (Texas: 'Personalized Plate'; California: 'Environmental License Plate'), but on r/Corvette and CorvetteForum people just call them custom plates. We pointed PlateHog's multi-state checker at every Corvette angle we could think of — chassis generations (C4 through C8), engine codes (LT1, LT2, LT4, LT6, LS3, LS7), trim levels (Z06, ZR1, Z51, Grand Sport, Stingray, E-Ray), and every enthusiast abbreviation we could find.
Some still got through. Every custom plate below has a live availability link so you can verify before you head to the DMV.
How we built this list
We compiled a list of thousands of candidate plates from CorvetteForum, r/Corvette, Mid Engine Corvette Forum, and our own research. The list covered every generation (C1 through C8), every special edition (Grand Sport, Z06, ZR1, ZTK, E-Ray, 70th Anniversary), every engine code, and every drivetrain reference real Vette people use in conversation.
Each plate was tested via PlateHog's real-time DMV adapters across all 11 supported states on April 9, 2026. The plates below are the ones that came back AVAILABLE in at least one state.
8 Corvette Vanity Plates Still Available
Vette love. Six characters that say everything that needs saying. Available in nine states — the most availability we found on any Corvette plate. If your garage has a Corvette in it and an LS-block thermos sitting next to your coffee maker, this is your plate.
C8 E-Ray. The hybrid Corvette nobody saw coming — a mid-engine V8 with an electric front motor that turns the C8 into an AWD rocket. The first electrified Vette in 70 years. C8RAY is still available in five states. The hybrid Vette crowd hasn't picked this clean yet — but they will.
Pushrod. The two-syllable answer to every "why doesn't GM use overhead cams?" debate. The pushrod LS/LT V8 is the engine that made the C5/C6/C7 the bargain supercars they are. Eight states still have PUSHRD — and every one of them is filled with people who could explain why pushrods are actually superior.
Race Vette. Eight states. The custom plate for the C7 Z06 owner who actually tracks his car instead of detailing it once a week and posting Instagram stories. You'll know the difference because RACEVT will be on the back of a car with brake dust no detailer can save.
Flat plane. The flat-plane crank engine in the Z06 (LT6.2 / LT6) — the one that revs to 8,600 RPM and sounds more like a Ferrari than a Chevy. The most exotic Corvette engine GM has ever built. Eight states still have FLATPN. The Z06 crowd hasn't realized yet.
Vette man. Six characters of unambiguous identity. Available in six states. The personalized plate for the guy who's owned at least three Corvettes — because once you cross the second one, you're in for life.
Small block. The Chevy small-block V8 — the engine architecture that's been in production in some form since 1955 and has powered every Corvette except the C8 mid-engine and the Z06's flat-plane. Seven states. The most tradition-coded Corvette plate possible.
Sebring. The endurance racing track in central Florida where Corvette Racing has dominated for decades — and where every C8.R Corvette earns its stripes. SEBRNG is still available in five states (including Florida, naturally). Pair it with a yellow C8.R livery and call it a day.

How to check if a vanity plate is available
The fastest way to check vanity plate availability is to use a multi-state checker like PlateHog. Here's how it works:
- 1.Type your plate idea into the search box on platehog.com — 2 to 7 characters, letters and numbers only.
- 2.See live DMV results across all 11 supported states in seconds. Available plates show green; taken plates show red.
- 3.Add taken plates to your watchlist if you want PlateHog to monitor them and email you the moment they become available.
How to actually order a vanity plate
Once you've found an available plate, you order it directly through your state's DMV — PlateHog doesn't process the order itself. Most state DMVs offer online vanity plate applications. The process typically takes 2–8 weeks depending on the state and plate design you choose.

Taken — But Not Forever
These plates are claimed in every state we checked. But here's the thing — plates change hands all the time. People sell cars, move states, let registrations lapse. Any of these could open up tomorrow.

What are some good vanity plate ideas for a Corvette?
The best Corvette vanity plate ideas reference the engine, the chassis generation, or the racing heritage. According to PlateHog's live DMV check on April 9, 2026, VETLOV (vette love), C8RAY (C8 E-Ray), PUSHRD (pushrod), FLATPN (flat plane), and SMBLCK (small block) are still available in multiple states. VETTE and STINGRAY are taken in every state we tested.
Can I get VETTE as a vanity plate?
No. VETTE is taken in every PlateHog-supported state and has been since the early 2000s. If you want a Corvette plate, you'll need a creative variant: VETLOV, VETMAN, RACEVT, or VETHED. All of these were still available somewhere as of April 2026.
Are 'custom plates', 'vanity plates', and 'personalized plates' the same thing?
Yes. Every state DMV uses one of those three labels for the same product — a plate where the owner specified the alphanumeric combination. California's official program is the 'Environmental License Plate' (ELP); Florida calls them 'Personalized Plates'; Texas uses 'Personalized Plate'. Drivers and search engines treat all three terms as synonyms, which is why this guide uses them interchangeably.
What does PUSHRD mean on a license plate?
PUSHRD is short for pushrod, a reference to the cam-in-block pushrod engine architecture used in Chevrolet's small-block and big-block V8s — including every LS- and LT-series Corvette engine except the Z06's flat-plane LT6 and the C8 hybrid E-Ray. It's a quiet flex among GM enthusiasts who have spent years defending pushrods against overhead-cam fans.
How much does a Corvette vanity plate cost?
Vanity plate fees are charged by the state DMV, not by GM. They range from $10/year in Virginia to $103 initial in California. Florida is $28/year, Texas $85–$195. See the full table earlier on this page.
How do I check if a Corvette vanity plate is available?
Use a multi-state vanity plate checker like PlateHog. Enter your plate idea and PlateHog will run it against all 11 supported state DMVs in real time, showing live availability for each.
What's the C8 E-Ray?
The C8 E-Ray is the first hybrid Corvette ever produced — a mid-engine LT2 V8 paired with a 1.9 kWh battery and an electric front motor that gives it AWD. It produces a combined 655 hp and hits 0–60 in 2.5 seconds. It was introduced in 2024 alongside the standard C8 Stingray and the high-performance Z06.
